Mary Rose Young studied drawing and illustration at Cheltenham College of Art and later trained in ceramics at Wolverhampton. She now has a studio in Bath where she produces colourful tableware as well as larger architectural pieces. The fine white earthenware still retains the slightly undulating texture of pieces thrown on the wheel but it is the flamboyant floral underglaze decoration that is most striking. Covered in multi-coloured roses, both inside and out, the lid is topped by a knob in the form of a rose. This work may appear to be all for the eye but it also appeals to the touch.
