Liz Quackenbush is an American artist who exhibits extensively and whose work is included in many private and public collections. Her ceramics are made by ‘patching together’ surface textures and colours inspired by Middle Eastern and early European ceramics. The hollow body of the jug-form has a slight ring to it when tapped. It has been modelled in earthenware clay which has been shaped and decorated to suggest a bird-like form with the tail both a handle and a funnel for the liquid. Her use of colourful and decorative glazes make the piece very appealing to the eye, and the smoothness of the clay and its flowing form make it engaging to touch.
