UK VERWOOD POTTERY

View in collection Verwood is in East Dorset, north of Poole. Pottery making started in the thirteenth century and at one time there were over 40 kiln sites in the area. The wares were made from the local clay and fired in a wood burning kiln giving its distinctive glaze. In the twentieth century the demand for its products declined and the last pottery closed in 1952.
