Born in Cambridge and currently based in Bath, Claire Loder studied at Bath Spa University before completing an MA in ceramics at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. Her work is inspired by faces and the characters they convey. Loder uses a combination of ceramics and painting to create whimsical, almost childish sculptures of heads and faces that allow her to comment on issues as diverse as the cosmetics industry and Capitalism from a unique, innocent perspective. She has exhibited her work in a selection of both solo and group exhibitions and is an Associate Member of the Devon Guild. Loder published a limited edition book of her recent work in August 2009 entitled Putting My Heads Together, each of which contains an original drawing of a head. She wrote The New Ceramics: Sculpting and Handbuilding which was published by Bloomsbury in 2013. She is a member of Craft Potters Association.
