He was apprenticed to the Coalport Porcelain Company at age 13 and continued to work as a designer for them in later years. He studied at the Royal College of Art, London, finishing in 1921 and taught figure drawing at Camberwell School of Art. He and his wife, Lily Norton, worked together at Kerama Studios, Hampstead, London, where they produced small figurative sculptural pieces which were exhibited widely in London. Their work is mentioned in reviews in The Studio of the late 1920s.
