Verity NEWMAN

View in collection Born in Devonshire, she studied art as a mature student at the University of Glamorgan, Pontypridd, graduating in 2003. She works mainly with paperclay, making reference to British ceramic traditions e.g. Staffordshire pottery. Her ceramic sculptures are influenced by personal interest in humans, animals and mythology. "Bull in a China Shop" was purchased for the ceramic collection in 2003. It is made of paperclay and mosaiced with recycled charity shop finds. It is a humorous response to Newman's interest in the popular nineteenth century tradition of cow creamers or milk jugs.
